"I'm tired of being chased by the media"

Darsheel Safary and the inauguration of the Jammin store

If you're just one film old and yet getting oodles of attention, you might not know how to handle it. With the success of his recent film -- Taare Zameen Par -- child actor Darsheel Safary has been constantly swamped by the media and he does not seem to be enjoying all the attention.

Darsheel Safary bagged a role in Aamir Khan's directorial debut and he even snatched the Critics Best Actor Award at the bygone 53rd Filmfare Awards from right under King Khan's nose. It seems this little wonder is now all set to steal the show in the advertising world as well, with endorsements pouring in from all sides. He even gets invites to be the guest of honour at events.

On Friday (March 21) Times Now caught up with Darsheel as he inaugurated the Jammin store at the Cross Roads Mall in Haji Ali. Darsheel was not just having a blast gaming at 'Jammin' but also enjoyed all the attention coming his way. But what took us by surprise were the starry tantrums thrown by this one film old actor. When asked about the sudden outburst the young tyke -- Darsheel Safary -- said, "Im tired of being chased by the media." He also added that he is tired of being touted against Shahrukh Khan (SRK) and said that he is not trying to compete with the King Khan at all.

While Darsheel may not be planning to take SRK head on right away, he needs to get used to being a celebrity and getting mobbed by the media.

The children were all set with their colours and canvas waiting for Taare Zameen Par actor Darsheel Safary to officially announce the theme for the evening's drawing competition so they could start!

Darsheel asked the young participants to draw anything they would want to on their white canvas. The drawing competition was a part of the 'possession granting' ceremony of a popular township situated near AUDA garden on Prahladnagar Road.

The judges comprised artists Bhanu Shah, Navin Dhagat and Dhiren Bhavsar. With some 500 kids at the event, Himanshu Patel, the promoter of the building complex felt that the event was specially marked to celebrate the young child in every home. "We wanted children to put their colours of imagination on paper in an environment, which helps them do so."

The whole event definitely signified the importance of 'innocence and spontaneity,' which is otherwise fading away in everyday life! And Darsheel added the spark to liven up everything.

Taare Switzerland ke Zameen Par

Tour with Darsheel on a 7D/6N Switzerland trip

That's where Darsheel Safary, the star of Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par, will be going.

Just one film old, and already the nine-year old has been signed as the brand ambassador of Mumbai's travel company Kesari.

The latest advertisement offers a week-long stay with Darsheel in Switizerland.

But why Darsheel?

"He is the brand ambassador for a student special tour called Masti Ki Patshala. He is a student himself, therefore other students will love him. So we thought it is better to sign on Darsheel as a brand ambassador for this special tour," spokesperson for Kesri Travels said.

Way to go Darsheel!

Bollywood’s shining little star, who many claim is too grown up for his own good (especially since he asked to be nominated as a Best Actor and not Best Child Actor at awards ceremonies) Darsheel Safary does not always appear to be the spoilt child in real life.

Now that he’s something of a celebrity, the 10 year-old was in town as a chief guest for a drawing competition. And even amidst all the adulation, cameras reaching out to him for a byte, lensmen asking him for a picture-perfect pose, there were shades of the cheerful tween resurfacing from his designer-garb clad self.

And Darsheel, even sat down to draw with participants, as fans — young and old — crowded to get a closer look at the twinkling star. Well, he’s a true performer, adjusting his cap, smiling at the camera and giving those rehearsed answers, “I am really enjoying it here.” And off he goes to tell the kids who have gathered at the event to draw whatever they would like to.

For this South Mumbai Gujarati Jain boy, life hasn’t been the same since Aamir Khan handpicked him from Shiamak Davar’s dancing classes. “I had to follow a three-day workshop with Aamir for the movie,” he says. But how was it really learning to act from one of the most accomplished actors of India?

“I was explained the scenes every time and I performed accordingly. All these expressions you saw me doing in the film are typically me. But it was fun rehearsing them with my co-actors in the movie,” Darsheel explains.

And you see those expressions come alive and light his face as he continues to fill colours on the canvas and her mother prodding in between to finish his glass of chocolate milk. But stardom can be unnerving too. The young actor is now tired of getting mobbed. “I don’t like girls and boys everyday trying to touch me during the recess in school,” he says.

Given a choice Darsheel and his parents would like to stay away from the glam world as far as possible. But the Safarys can never escape that one controversial question of why he wanted to be nominated for the best actor award when he received the best child actor award recently? Was he prompted to say this? Darsheel’s mom Sheetal clears the air, “This is entirely Darsheel’s feelings on the issue as he felt he was important for the film.”

And in true superstar style, Darsheel doesn’t want to talk anymore and would rather like to tuck into a customised order for a chilly cheese dosa and jump on the stage, as children his age watch him with wide-eyed fascination and yes, hero worship. For now Darsheel, seems to revel in his just acquired celebdom. Not every 10 year-old can have the world at his feet!

President of India lauds Taare Zameen Par

It's been almost three months since Aamir Khan's maiden directorial venture Taare Zameen Par hit theatres, but the film still continues to stay in the news.

While all those who have seen the film can't stop raving about it, there are some who only recently managed to squeeze in time to watch this brilliant film. Among them is our very own President Pratibha Patil who had heard so much about the film that she was very keen to watch it.

The President even asked Aamir Khan to arrange a special screening but somehow or the other it kept getting postponed. However, her wish was fulfilled last weekend when the star actor arranged a special screening for the President and her family at the Rashatrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Sunday (Mar 2). Aamir along with his protege, Darsheel Safary, attended the screening.

Needless to say, Pratibha Patil was mighty impressed with the film and the performances. What's more she even felicitated the duo (Aamir and Darsheel) and said that many more such films with a social message should be made.
